This beautiful little glass vase was sold to me as a piece made specifically for use during a Japanese tea ceremony. Flowers are often a part of the aesthetic requirements for a tea ceremony, and although bamboo or pottery vases are still most common, glass has taken a place as well.

I don't know who made this vase.
It is serene and lovely; an off white inner case with a spattered soft brown outer.
It is decorated with slightly darker lines and spatters, with areas of crimson spatter also. The result is sakura, like a cherry tree in blossom.
The glass has been matted, so it is a calm and retiring piece of great tranquility.
Like many artisan made Japanese glass pieces, the shape is based on a traditional pottery vase, and a wonderful foot has been added to finish the piece.

I wish my photos were better here. It is in actuality incredibly beautiful.

Height: 20cm (although it seems smaller)

Actually it is incredibly beautiful in your photos, Karen, and particularly in image one. Abstract art......

Thanks so much Peggy, although I haven't done it justice.
I just had a laugh at myself after reading I called this a little vase - I guess 20cm isn't so small. Maybe beside my usual Japanese glass it is smallish.
Have a lovely Easter there! Don't go slow on the chocolate (or wine or whatever...)

So 20 cm., even better! Sometimes more IS more. As to Easter I trust you'll be following your own good advice too :)

Thanks for the admiration Lisa! Of course I always appreciate it.

I will Peggy :) Got 4 days off work, might be able to sort some stuff (including glass) out a bit!

It is indeed like poetry in glass Kyra. Thanks.

Thanks Ken. It's amazing how bright yet subtle it is.

      Happy Easter All!!!

Oh My Lord! This is beyond anything I've ever seen, -- and your description makes it so much more so as it draws the eye to all the beautiful elements that make it up. This has got to be one of your best pieces, Karen, it's an absolute star.

Thanks for the love and appreciation Katherine; I'm stoked! It could only be better if I was sure who made it....

Thanks Malkey; that's coming from an owner of so much exceptional glass!
