I hope that someone can tell me how old it really is.
I bought his trunk two years ago. It was love at first sight. It came direct from the attic of a Chateau in the Pyreness, France and was covered in a thick layer of fine dust and soot. The leather was very dry and cracked and almost black in places. I brought it home and over a period of several months, I carefully cleaned and treated the leather. I then repaired the small rips and scuffs it had suffered along the way. I added four modern, polised aluminium feet. It is now a thing of beauty. It's my pride and joy
. It measures: 119 cm x 49 cm x 44 cm. The lock and clasp are hand forged, as are the handles. The front, back, floor and sides are each made from a single plank/panel of wood.

N-I-C-E ! We have members who specialize in trunks. I'm going to say pre-1800.

i think that those tacks were really popular between 1850 and 1865, from what i've read. larger tacks were used before 1850.
