This vase when turned upside down has upright pictures on the base of it. It has been in the family for at least 100 years. It has no name or dates on it. Size is 7"x 5". It has 2 small handles. It may have had a lid at one time. The handles appear to be shaped as frogs. It is China as far as I know. I t appears to have some smiling or funny faces on it. I can send many more photos. Any info on this would be great. My Family came from southern Ontario lived there in 1700s. Thanks

Most of the lower-quality (defected) transferware from Europe got sent to North America for market. This was likely one.
It's upside down because someone wasn't thinking when he applied the inked transfer paper to the clay vessel! LOL.
Looks to be 1830s-1870s by its style.

A steel plate is engraved with images, inked, and pressed onto paper which is then pressed onto the clay object. The ink transfers over, the object with paper is fired, and the paper burns away to leave only the transfered ink, which is then refired with a glaze to protect it and make the item water-proof.
One of my favourite kinds of porcelain.
