"arcoroc" is a (mostly) commercial line of glassware that is made of 'tempered glass', which when broken tends to become tiny cubes (like automotive glass) instead of much more dangerous large jagged-edged shards.

You're quite welcome VikingGirl! :-) I have at least one or two arcoroc bowls myself (different patterns than yours) and they're handy to have around -- totally microwave and dishwasher safe, plus able to survive accidental drops into the sink (floor, etc) that any 'plain glass' dish wouldn't?! ;-) My WaffleHouse coffee cup is branded "arcopal" which I think (without any further research) is another trademark from the same company.
