Mom passed in March of this year so as the only daughter I inherited all of hers and her Mother's jewelry. There is a bit of fine jewelry, albeit, inexpensive fine jewelry but more fascinating is the large amount of costume jewelry. 90% of the costume jewelry belonged to my Grandmother.

I THOUGHT this necklace and earring set was from my Dad to my Mom but after someone commented that it's a 'Squash Blossom" design, but now realize it would been my Grandmother's instead especially as the earrings are clip-on's as Mom had pierced ears (pierced in adulthood though)

Originally she told me she thought my Dad picked it up on a layover in North Africa (the layover is accurate), however when the first kind commenter shared it was a Squash Blossom necklace, after looking them up, I no longer feel my Dad could have obtained this in N. Africa and even if he did, it was not made by someone in N. Africa...??

I cannot date which period the 'squash blossom' design appears to be from. From just a sheer 'when would my Grandmother' have been most likely to obtain the necklace it could have been from the 30's to 70's.

I'd LOVE to know more about the necklace and earrings. It's fascinating to look at. I watched a video about how to tell what period squash blossom jewelry is from, but it did not clarify for me fully if this would have been from a period before '50-'70 or during this exact timeframe.

Thanks to commenters who pointed out this is actually a 'faux' squash blossom necklace. While that was disappointing, I still find it fascinating so it's ok. I'd rather know everything about the origin as it is priceless to me in tying as much actual data as possible to the people I loved who owned the jewelry.

I honestly don't know that I'd every actually wear it, am trying to figure out what in the heck I own that it would go with..lol. However, I don't want my Mom and Grandmother's jewelry sitting in boxes for another 20 to 40 years and not being 'enjoyed'. The only time that knowing the value is very important to me is that it dictates the level of care I should take with the piece and also whether or not I'd ever let my youngest wear something (shhhh..our little secret).

There are quite a few squash blossom necklaces on eBay that you can compare. Are there any markings on it?

Since this is a faux squashblossom rather than the real thing, normally made from Sterling, check the clasp and earrings for a maker mark. A company called Goldette made faux squashblossom jewelry.

      Efesgirl,

Oh wow, its a faux necklace? That's bit disappointing but I'll still enjoy the pieces. I'll check the clasp and the earrings to see if there is a mark there. Thanks for helping with the mystery.

      Mrstyndall,

Thank you for identifying from the start, what the necklace/earrings were!!

      Efesgirl,

I'm not sure if this is a 'mark' or not (uploaded pic), but it was most easily seen on the earring. Looks a little bit like a 'seeing' eye (resembles...I know it's not an actual depiction of a 'seeing eye').

I'll see if the company you mentioned that did faux squash necklaces had any mark or did they stamp their name..

      Thanks as always!

      Efesgirl,

I've attached a pic of the very tiny clasp...doesn't give me much to go on at all.
