We have a pair of these cases that have been handed down three generations at least that I know of.

It was thought they were Chinese origin, but after some sleuthing on the net, I feel they're more likely to be Japanese.

They're about 24" tall and I'd love to know more about them. Does anyone recognise the signature?

Can anyone tell me about the images? I'd always thought they were scholars or something.

we need to see more than just one side. please show pics all around - use the 4 pictures to show it off a bit more. from what i can see, it looks like 1930s-40s satsuma with moriage.

Your correct in that its Japanese But I don't recognize the mark. I agree with ho2cultcha with it being satsuma with moriage. in looking at what I have in my collection. date it to 1920's most of the examples like your in my books I have date them to 1915-1920's range

      Many thanks for the comments.

Wow! Perhaps around 100 years old.

Although I must say I would've been more impressed before last Thursday when I took my mother to visit her friend in an old folks home. She introduced me to another inmate who was 106yo and still going strong!

I've added a third picture now.

PS: Sorry for the tardiness in responding. I've been out of town.

Can anyone ID or even read the signature?
