You can see the clasp for the necklace/chain is stamped STERLING. Unsure if the pearls clustered nicely with some silver decor at the bottom are real or not.

Unsure if the type of clasp helps with getting an estimated date on this. I need to read that article.

That's so sweet and lovely. My idea is this is 50s and is likely to be cultured pearls.
The gurus may think otherwise :)

      racer4four,

Thank you...I like the way you said it...it is sweet. UGH..and I still see my black cat's fur ALL in the background!! I am going to do future pics in a room we try to keep as fur free as possible (no cats allowed).

Does anyone here have much experience with the different types of testing chemicals, etc.? Do they potentially ruin/mar the finish of our vintage items?

It's pretty, but "silver" doesn't always mean Sterling. There are different percentages of silver, depending on where the necklace was made. The clasp is typical of 1940s and mid-century jewelry.
An acid test determines whether something is silver.

Ooh...reading what they do for an acid test and how much 'room' they need....I think I'll just go with knowing there is some amt of silver in the necklace..

Is this the same thing a jeweler who does appraisals would do to establish 'just how much silver' is in something?

      nutabotas6 - thank you!!
