Does anyone care to comment on what you see here? I think it's an antique of sorts. It does work well. I don't sew. It was handed down from a relative of mine. It's very heavy and is concealed in this wooden box.

    Thank you,

    Frank

I believe that what you have is a Singer 99K machine in a bentwood case . They are nice little machines . Yours appears to be in good condition , but is missing the slide plate that goes over the bobbin area . I would tell you what year it was made , but you have the cord over the serial number so I can not read it . You can go to the Singer web site and find out what year it was made . Around here ( the Mid- West ) these type of machines sell for $50.00 on up depending on condition and if it sews . Just because a machine runs and it appears to work , does not mean that it will sew . There are many things that might need ajustment .

I have a similar machine with seriel number Y1495301, manufactured in Clydebank, Scotland on June 27, 1923. It runs but I will have to test to see if it sews. Getting ready for garage sale ---- Does anyone have an idea what it would be worth?

Singer got back to me and advised that this is a model #66 built in Elizabeth, NJ in 1954. The plate on the machine states that it was built in Canada though! Go figure!

If I am not mistaken it has a number on it right below the badge that says 99K . It does take a class 66 bobbin , ( a drop in ) but I believe it is a 99 K . The decals are also of a Singer 99 K .

Frank, it's definitely a 99, and I would say either you've quoted the Serial number to them incorrectly or they've looked it up wrong - if it was made in Canada the little number will not say 99K. Singer does not have records for the St Jean factory so you will only be able to get an estimate of the date. The 99 with Eye decal, came into use in the 1950's.

Frank, my apologies, the machine IS a 66 - you can see that there is a rear inspection plate and that the faceplate has a curve on it - on a 99 there is no rear inspection plate and the faceplates are flat. There is a small plate just below the oval badge, it's not possible to make out clearly in the photo but it should say 66-. This is the first time I've seen Eye decal on a 66.

Frank : Bernadette is right . It appear that your machine is not a 99 K . I have a couple of 99 K machines . I did not realize that they did not have a rear inspection plate until I saw Bernadette's last post and I went and looked at one of my 99K machines . I have yet to clean up my machines so I had not even looked at the backside of them . Please give us the number right below the badge on the front . It appears to be a two digit number and then a letter . I would really like to know what that number and letter is . Sorry for the mixup .

Under the 66 is a plate that has this sequence:

      AL675788

Frank, I'm sorry I missed your post - the commission date for your machine is April 2 1954. It was one of 15,000 machines from that batch, which would have been made over the weeks and months following April 2 commission date.

Thanks everyone for your comments. Does anyone know what it might be worth? Is it considered a collector's model?

      Thanks,

      Frank

Not really a collector's model, and not highly valuable. On a really good day you might get $100 on eBay for it, but equally find one at a charity shop for $20 - it's worth what someone is willing to pay :)
