Does anyone have any information about this Pewter Beer Stein? I have been searching touchmarks for hours with no luck. Look closely at the marks inside- one is an angel with a sword in one hand and a scale in the other. It has the initials KD. The other Mark says Zinn with a design around it. Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Hi, I realize it has been some time, but I was wondering if you received an answer to your question on the pewter beer stein. I have the same question... Same KD and touchmark (Angel with sword and scale) on a pewter stein (no mention of ZINN (or tin in German), and I would appreciate any information you may have received.

The word stein is a shortened form of Steinzeugkrug, which is German for stoneware jar or tankard. However, by common usage, stein means any beer container – regardless of material or size – that has a hinged lid and a handle.

In the second photo you can see two touches in the beer mug. The angel holding the scales in one hand and the sword in the other is a mark indicating that the beer mug is 100% tin. The red sticker on the bottom (see fifth photo) states that it is part of the tin trade guild that guarantees quality and craftsmanship. The seal also means that the beer mug is safe for drinks. Some older beer steins contain lead which is soluble in beer and is not food safe.

While there may be many beer steins out there, I have not found any others with this exact hunting motif. The detail on this beautiful, collectible stein is incredible. You see a man sitting and smoking a pipe. You see deer, trees, another man shooting a gun, a squirrel, a sunset, mountains, another man looking through a telescope, and two dogs. I've seen beer steins with different but similar hunting scenes sell for smaller sizes anywhere from $165 to $420.

This stein has a few scratches near the base and around the top edge. There is a small ring inside. You can also see where there most likely once was a price tag on the bottom. I'm happy to clean with little water and a soft towel, but I didn't want to take a risk by improperly caring for the stein. Please view all photos carefully!

German beer mugs make wonderful gifts for any beer lover!

Weighs 1 pound 9 ounces without packing materials.
approximately 7 3/4" tall (measured from the base to the tip of the lid)
width 5" (measured from handle to other end)
diameter of base: approximately 4 1/4"
