Yes it is a vintage trash can. How vintage it is hard to tell how vintage it is as there are no markings but it looks vintage. These old galvanized steel trash cans are much nicer looking than the plastic ones. I would get all steel ones but the trash guy would hate me.
My plan for this is to put unsightly garden items in it. Such as bags of planting soil. It is always good to rationalize a purchase when it has a practical purpose.

Wow Fort, I haven't seen one of these in ages. Unfortunately, in my house I had trash can duty and had to drag these heavy things (we had two) from the backyard up front to the curb. Not my one of my fondest memories : ) Thanks for sharing...

I actually kinda MISS these (esp the cute little ones, like this) now that I am otherwise required to get rid of my household trash in a relatively ginormous (*far* too large for my weekly need...I'm not an "average family" of 5.3 or whatever...?) plastic 'roller-cart' thing provided by the City, just so they can use automated trucks to dump the damned things... :-(

"OSCAR the GROUCH" would be proud of you for finding/saving this one, fort!! :-) ;-) :-)

Thank you very much Rick55. Yes they could be a challenge. We has a 55 gallon drum with wheels on one side. I imagine dragging one like mine could be a challenge.

Oh, I didn't mention it, but mine was the large size!

Thank you very much AnythingObscure. I don't produce much trash myself. Just about a kitchen trashcan's worth every week. When there is snow I don't even bother to bring it down to what passes for a street.
Tell Oscar it is my pleasure.
