This is a beer stein depicting Lohengrin and Elsa. It is done in a stone blue and cobalt blue color. It is 8" x 3.5" and with the handle it is about 5" wide. I think the top is a soft pewter as it is pliable. The details are intricate with lots of designs. There is a 2 on the bottom as well as Germany on the bottom. I think it has 1/2L underlined on the neck of the stein. Very nice.
Yes, the lid is pewter and the body is salt glazed. This one just has a generic "GERMANY" stamp on it which means it's post-WWII. I live 15 minutes from the German border and see loads and loads of these steins.

Thank you Efesgirl. I was going to put salt glazed, but I did not want to be presumptuous because I read it today and didn't want to put wrong info. Good to know in either case. I do not collect them and I try not to collect anything that has a commercial stamp on it like the stuff they sell by the thousands in magazines or from the Franklin Mint etc. I buy things that are unique to me. I do not wish to have a house full of steins. I do have a stein that I believe is maybe 100 years old, it belonged to my grandmother. I thank you for your input. I will read up on post WWII steins and see what I can find.
