      Hi
When you squeeze take leg or body , does it feel very firm, or soft like a cotton filled article. Many of those stuffed toys were filled with something like fine sawdust. If filled with sawdust it could be older like 30's or so.
Sawdust or a like material filler could be packed better and the details would look better.

Thank you both for the feedback! He is definitely firm and if it helps his fur is made of velveteen and the eyes are glass.

Yes he is velveteen and would be firm most of these are made in Japan and yes he could date a bit earlier than 50's so let's say 40's-50's .

I definitely agree it looks like a Japanese with the cutesy face they often have. It's filling has a similar firmness to my grandma's steiff lion from the 50s (she said she's soon ready for me to take leo!) Although I don't have enough experience to say if it's the same or not.
Manikin do you have any ideas of manufacturer names that made toys that look kinda like this guy? I'm not sure but I get the feeling he is made by a small company or one that didn't make them long but it's interesting to try and find out what i can.

So i was checking out the bottom where it had some repairs done (and quite well done too) and with a magnifying glass i could see that he is filled with sawdust!
