This Dinner Set was given to me by my husbands grandfather,the Dinner
Set belonged to my husbands grandmother, who had got it from her mother which recieved it from her mother.
The Dinner Set was originally a wedding gift to my husbands great,great
grandmother.
I like this dinner Set as it has special meaning to us,also the beautiful
Orchid pattern that it has on it,I don't know how old it actually is but
would say very old.

Hi is this set for sale? I'm looking for a few bits that are missing in mine.
Royal Doulton's Orchid was produced in both cream pattern d5215 and white 5400 they were produced in the 1930's through 40's. You can date your set by adding 27 to the number right of the backstamp so if you see an 11 your set was produced in 1938 for instance. Yours looks to be cream so it is very likely that you can easily date it using this method. You can also try the online reference sites to date RD. According to Chinafinders D5215 dates to the 1930's. Such a lovely pattern.
I have lost a few pieces of my set in the Christchurch earthquake (cups, saucer, side plate). My set was used as the family Sunday dinner set when my mother was a child. She was born in 1918. My set is D5400 and is backstamped 1237
As I said above, I lost a few items in our latest earthquake andI am trying to find out if the broken pieces can be replaced, and if so, what would the approximate cost be, for a cup, saucer and side plate.
My parents have just travelled interstate to collect my greatgrandmothers collection. I appears to be a complete set, including coffee service, tea service and egg cups we were wondering if it came with salt and pepper shakers/pots, as my mother would like to add to the collection. A few peices are chipped as the service was used everyday, but otherwise in good condition.
We would love to have some idea of its value, if any at all. It won't be sold as we intend to keep it in the family.
My mother passed away in October, 2010 and I have her Orchid D5400 52 piece dinner set which was a wedding gift. My mum used the dinner set and a cup was broken. It was only after a dear old family friend explained the value to my mother, that the dinner set was put away. I would love to make the set complete again. The pieces for Orchid white D5400 are very difficult to find.

I have more than 100 pieces of this beautiful pattern. I have been trying to find a book or books with the history of this pattern and the Fenland pattern, if anyone knows of any book or web site where I might find this information please let me know. I would like to thank Narelle for the info on dating my pieces. I am thrilled to bits to find such information it is so hard to get, even most dealers don,t know how to date individual pieces. I do have some pieces that are marked as Orchids instead of 'Orchid D5215', can anyone please tell me how to date these pieces. I do have a set of V2129 dose the sam principle apply with this set, that is do I add 27 to the small number on the right of the back stamp? I will now keep an eye on this wonderful site for more info, Thank you too all who contribute.
