Dr. Friedrich von Hefner-Alteneck was responsible for designing the machine.
A punch left hand operated on a template looks the desired character, which in turn is connected by a shaft to the cylinder with the characters, pressing the button the right hand moves the cylinder down by type the desired letter on paper, ribbons are on both sides of the house of the mechanism. The left button serves to move the platen.

Can that possibly be in original condition, or has it been repainted and re-decaled. I am of the opinion that the red models were gifted to heads of governments is this correct..

Has been restored and painted by the Museo de la Tecnica del Emporda, this museum have one of the best typewriter collection in Europe (www.mte.cat), maybe you opinion are correct..
