This beautiful cobalt blue enameled brooch has a decoration of silver with very nice rose cut diamonds and is of French origin. The hallmarks you can see on the back site (photo 3) is French for a patent because of the hidden compartment. It's tested for 18K as all antique French jewelry. It has is a rare hidden compartment. Have you any idea from the time period or where this compartment can be used for?

This brooch was published two years ago on CW.
I'm still searching more details of this brooch where I don't have found all the answers yet. The brooch has a antique c-clasp and a little ring for a safety chain to You would very help me by answering the following questions with your knowledge or advise.
This brooch was made in France. See text description.
What purpose could this secret box used for? It's very small, actually too small for a photo (if that was already existing in the period when the brooch was made). I cannot smell any trace of fragrance. For me the only option is poison? Do you agree?
And dating this brooch? Please your opinion.

      Hi Agram,
Breveté SGDG means "patented, without government warranty". This was introduced by a law promulgated in 1844, but was used (stamped) by 1860
      This mention stopped in 1968.
I think your brooches are around 1880', in Louis XV designs revival.
The secret compartment was for a lock of hair, or a piece of cloth, a keepsake of a beloved one.
It would have been rather unpractical to pour poison from a brooch!!!

It would help dating if you clearly show the backs and findings. I feel that with the trellis motif this dates to around the turn of the 20th century. It has an Edwardian look to me but could be a later reproduction. Beautiful either way!
