Jim Morrison hand-written lyrics to what is commonly referred to as the song that birthed The Doors, Moonlight Drive. Ray Manzarek often tells the story of he and Jim Morrison seeing each other on the beach, catching up from when they saw each other last at UCLA film school and Jim telling Ray he's been writing songs. Ray encourages Jim to sing him one of the songs he has written while living on the rooftop in Venice Beach and he starts with Moonlight Drive. 2011 marks the 40th anniversary of the death of Jim Morrison which makes this piece even more special to me.
The photo, I'm told, is one from Jim Morrison's first professional photo shoot. He doesn't look quite as comfortable as in the later photo shoots like with Joel Brodsky (he took the famous "Young Lion" image that Morrison never really thought he could live up to).
The frame is also super cool. The part of the frame that holds the lyric sheet is on hinges and can be opened like a book to reveal the back side of the page.
I didn't see a lot of The Doors stuff on here, so I'd thought I'd share. Enjoy!
