This clock was made in Germany and it has a wonderful wood case with a veneer of burl wood on the face of the clock. It has large bronze numerals and neat art deco hands. The clock has a three rod chime in the back and the movement was made by Gustav Becker – marked GB with Becker's anchor symbol on the back. The chime is a bim bam chime and strikes the hour and once on the half hour. The front of the movement is marked with a 31 c, which means it was made in March of 1931.

The tag on the back of the door indicates it was sold by a jeweler in Berlin named Brandmann. The clock works and is in good condition, only few a minor scratches in the wood on the top. It measures about 10½" wide and 7¾" tall.

Interestingly, the jewelry shop named on the plaque on your clock was just discussed here a few days ago, the Brandmann shop was in business in the 1920's and into the 1930's, but was destroyed in the November 8th, 1938 "Kristallnacht" event and as best can be determined did not resume business after that happened. That being the case, your clock was made quite a bit earlier than 1945.

It is known that Brandmann sold GB clocks such as yours and usually placed their label (metal plaque) on the clocks. Also, for information the movement design of your clock was last manufactured around the end of 1932. It is a GB design, and at that time the factory in Freiburg was closed by Junghans who then owned the GB company. After Freiburg was closed, the GB logo was used but not on GB design movements, and it was a much less fancy and smaller anchor design than you have on your clock. What you will find from 1933 onward is Junghans or HAC/HAU movements stamped with the GB logo, that practice is known to have continued until about mid-1940 but no evidence of continuation after that.
