A friend brought this to me as a little souvenir of her most recent search for goodies in the antique shops of Virginia. Standing about 4 inches tall, his make-up is very "stone-like"--one cute little sailor. We think he is made of alabaster; what do you think?

Does it have anything sticking out of the back? Could it be porcelain?

No, it isn't porcelain, nor is it marble. Very stone-like, but can be scratched. Def of alabaster seems most likely, but I'm just checking for any other possibilities. From feedback, he seems very popular. Looks like a little 40's sailor to me. Thanks for your input.
