I recently purchased this item mostly because I collect tin pieces & because it looked very unusual. I wish I knew what it was and/or what it was used for. It is very clean inside. It has a hinged lid with a sort of chimney/vent on the lid. The bottom has some brown-black stains as if may have been used on a fire/stove. Any ideas?

It looks like one of those old pans they used to use to boil stuff like lobsters as the (chimney) on top must let out pressure and steam. Looks like an old steam pot to me but I could be wrong.
Was wondering if something like this might have been used for making maple syrup? It was purchased in an area of Ohio that is known for maple syrup.
