This is a neat inkwell, with nice Deco design. The bottom is marked Carter Cubewell, for use only with Carter's Cubes, and The Carter Ink Company, Patent Applied For, Made in USA. The glass inkwell is marked C54, with a 14 and a 7 below. Pendemonium says this about the item:
ca. 1940s, Carter's ink bottle cubes are well known to many with their catchy graphics, but Cube-Well sets are far less common and were designed to hold a Carter's inverted cube to feed ink to the pen point. Black with distinctive art deco lines on sides and front. They value it at $45.00. I paid quite a bit less than that, and theirs didn't have the original pen.
