There was one in the Gym at the highschool that I attended. Used to stencil our gym clothes. It uses what is called "Oil Board" if I remember right. A fairly stiff card stock.
Used one of these in the Military to cut stencils like Triker said.......The Chief used it as a method of punishment if you had to do stencils for the "Boots" coming in.......That was in the 60's and the machine was old then.......
It's a stencil maker, it makes letters and numbers, we still have one at work but don't use it anymore, and I have one in storage too mine is smaller but very heavy, I sure it's made of cast iron, at least the frame is, you need a roller, ink and ink pad, and I call it cardboard paper :)
There was also a stenciling brush. Similar to a shaving brush but with short bristles and a small reservoir to hold ink. A push of a button would wet the bristles. I have one with the box it came in and some ink in the original bottle. That is if it isn't dried up. I've still got some of my Navy stencils from the mid 70s. The good card stock for stencils was usually a dark brownish color. I believe it was lightly oiled or waxed so it wouldn't absord the ink and would last longer.
