I bought this sterling silver pin for my mother about 20 years ago for about 15 bucks, not having the slightest idea what it was. From what I gather, it was made in about 1930 by Lillian Pines, a New York-based silversmith. Her work seems to be fairly rare these days.

After reading the article below, my mother realized I'd actually given her something that was pretty cool. Who knew?
