This beautiful wall hanging was made at least 20 years ago. Well, that's how long I've had it.
The markings on the back say that the slate itself dates back to the 1800's.
"Roofing Slates mined in Pennsylvania and transported down the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers on rafts became the roofing material after the disastrous fire of 1795. Each one was individually hand shapped. This one came from an old building in the Vieux Carre', New Orleans and dates back to the 1800's."
