This inlaid wood and ivory cigarette box was bought by my father in Gibraltar around 1951 while he was in the navy and sailing on the USS Midway. I remember it getting a lot of use around our house on the '70s, but unfortunately, I don't know much about it otherwise.

I have two boxes and a plate with similar patterned inlay, possibly from the same source as my partner's father was in the British Merchant Navy from the 1940's to the 1960's. I wonder whether they are North African in origin but I am also searching for information.

Possibly Indian made since there are numerous Indian merchants in Gibraltar. I remember seeing similar crafted boxes on display over there.
