Two baskets made by Hazel Pete, a master basket maker. I have added a picture of her with one of her baskets, but the other picture is of the two baskets I have that were made by her. They were made at her school for Indian Basketry which she opened to get people interested in the old ways of basketry. She had seen how the younger generations were not really interested in keeping the making of baskets alive, so she asked permission with a couple of other women to be allowed to teach people who were not Native American how to make baskets. She was given permission by the Tribal Council and opened her school. She also taught at college universities. The woman who owned these two baskets had taken classes at the school, and the school also sold baskets made by Hazel and the other teachers. The woman bought these two and when she passed away, her daughter sold everything her mother collected which is how I was able to acquire these. The smaller of the two is about 4 inches wide by 5 inches high, including the handle. The larger is about 6 inches in diameter. I am very proud to own these two.
