The form of this vase has always pleased me, but it is the duck-egg glaze that has made it one of my favorites. A market find I've had it for nearly thirty years. Bretby Art Pottery, more properly known as Tooth & Co. Ltd., was started in 1883 by Henry Tooth and William Ault. The mark on the vase is a rising sun over the name BRETBY and Made in England.

Thank you Budek, daisymay and scandinavian_pieces!
Love the form!
Thanks cogito!
Bretby is way underestimated IMHO ( also in the opinion of one of the Antiques shows experts ; Tim Wonnacott I seem to remember... ) especially their early 20th century production

Thanks for the kind comment, vetrissimo.
And thanks too to Jen and FineLines!
This piece is supreme. The glaze is perfect for the form, and the glaze is a marvel all by itself. I have to pay attention to Bretby now.
Manay thanks AmphoraPottery, I can only agree with you. Bretby can be amazing.
The color and egg-shell glaze, the shape,....the piece is stunning!
It looks like it could have been found in a nest.
Thanks Budek! I've got a couple of other eggs to come soon. One glass and the other porcelain.
Many thanks AmberRose & miKKoChristmas11!
