I picked this up at a yard sale today. 5" x 7" tintype of a woman playing an unknown stringed instrument. Any help on the instrument, value, or anything at all is greatly appreciated.

Thanks, I figured since you seem to know a lot, why not ask.
That is a nice large tintype. It is odd sized-- a little smaller than a whole plate (6 1/2" X 8 1/2").
Based on the clothing of the woman and size, I would date it to the late 1870s- 1880s.
I cannot tell for certain, but it may be a copy image (photo of photo)-- there is a visible line along the left side and bottom. Does the photograph content extend beyond this line?

I think it might have extended past the line. It was stored poorly in an old shed. This was framed in a cheap modern frame. The curtain looks like it goes past the line.
If the image extends, then it should be an actual photo and not a copy image.
It is a great subject matter for a tintype.

Based off of condition, I think it would bring about $20- $35.

Really?...............tintypes of men w/ banjos sell for over $100.
Musical related images are desirable, but the instrument makes a big difference.
If she was holding a guitar you could probably double/ triple the price. A banjo would raise it considerably more than that!
