A bulbous shaped Fritz Heckert Glasfabrik vase in blown uranium glass and designed and decorated by Ludwig Sütterin. “Sütterin” is signed on the inner rim. This translucent enamel Sütterin “tree” decor was used on various Heckert vases and glassware produced from 1902-04. This piece has a nice strong iridescent satin finish and deep fluorescence under ultraviolet light. For other examples see,the Passauer Glasmuseum, Das Böhmische Glas, Vol. 5, pg. 69-71. Dimensions: 6.69"(H) x 8.66"(W).

Ludwig Sütterlin (1865–1917) was a graphic artist who lived in Berlin, Germany, and was most notable for designing and creating the old German blackletter handwriting Sütterlinschrift (Sütterlin script) or simply Sütterlin. Near the end of his life, Sütterlin acted as the principle designer for the respected Glasfabrik Fritz Heckert from 1900 - 1905. His designs for Heckert often reflect a transition of Jugendstil and Art Deco style motifs.

Thank you. I'm only the caretaker until they pass on to another. I suspect we all feel the same on this website. Cheers.

Hi, GSO. Thanks. So, you've been my competition. ;) Great pieces you have. Your attributions look good to me. I particularly like the rare salamander Sutterlin...very cute cat picture with that vase, though you must have nerves of steel to have cats around your vases!

Thanks Cogito! You get used to the cats smelling the glass. They kind of treat it like roses. They just want to get a noseful of it but they're mindful of the thorns. Not sure why that's so, but it's impossible to take pics of glass without at least two cats smelling the stuff sometimes three. I call them my glass inspectors. :)
