Well honestly i don't know much about it. My father passed it down to me, he use to a old phone man for GTE and worked on the sidelines in the 70's. Just thought maybe someone could me out as far as the history and value this phone has? It was made by Automatic Electric and I do have the code # as well.

Automatic Electric the manufacturing arm of GTE moved from Chicago to Northlake, Il in 1957. The payphone would have been manufactured any time after 1969 because of the anti theft coin return. The early payphones from the 1940's/50's sell in the $300.00 to 400.00 and some cases more. the later models from the 1970/80's sell for $150.00, but to a Dallas Cawboy fan your could sell for more.

I do appreciate the info Tom. Now how would I go about finding the year it was manufactured?

Inside the payphone housing there should be a date stamped. If yours is a repaint inside and out the date could be painted over.

FYI: GTE employees were given an option to buy refurbished pay phones when the company upgraded to credit card payphones in the 70's. Your options were "Ebony Black", "Candy apple Red" or "Dallas Cowboys". Cowboys was the favorite. I don't even know if they were ever offered to the public. Hope this helps with the history,

Growing up, my grandparents had this exact phone in their game room. I always asked them if I could please have it. Well ,30+ years later, this phone was left to me in their will. RIP memaw and papa. I now have it and it means the world to me. Cowboys for life. That's my sorry
