Bakelite Michelin Man ashtrays (actually his name is Bibendum) are some of the most collectible character items / ashtrays. These were made in the USA, France and England. Some of the more valuable are the green ashtrays. They are generally valued at $230.- $300.00.
This one was quite dirty when I found it. Gentle cleaning and sunlight bleaching of the Bibendum made him like new.

What a great and unusual piece. You mentioned character ashtrays; what are some of the other ones that you've seen?
That's a good question, I immediately pictured a Tony the Tiger ashtray, which probably wouldn't go over to well with parents. I guess I meant Collectible ashtrays and character collectibles.
Beautiful.
I have the same one in black bakelite. Advertising character ashtray? I have the Cassandre DuBonnet guy ashtray. I should look him and see if anybody know anything about that.
