THESE 2 LITTLE BUTTONS LOOK TO BE ENAMELED. THE LETTERS AOUW ARE IN THE CENTER OF THE SHIELD. THEY ARE 5/8 OF AN INCH IN DIAMETER. I HAVE NO IDEA AS TO WHAT THESE REPRESENT.

It is a lapel button for the Ancient Order of United Workmen. Google it for lots of interesting information.

This is what Button collectors refer to as a "stud Button". The front is painted celluloid and the back is Japanned, a form of layered black varnish. Pencil-necked-geek is correct, this was worn on the lapel.
