I bought these numbers at a little antique shop in Bell Buckle TN. this last year. I can't find any pictures of old gas stations where these were used so I would appreciate the Gas and Oil experts coming forward to explain them.
I thought it was pretty cool to find them in the carrying tray still for a good price.
Found out this last week that Mike and Frank from "American Pickers" were at this same store and asked what these went for, when they were told how cheap they sold for they said they would've paid double that,,,,lol.

I still need some help on this one, would like to know how these were used and if anyone has a pic with them in it.
These would be pricing tags hung near the pump area due to their smaller size. The larger ones were used on big a-frame boards next to the road. These smaller ones would have been hung sometimes under the big brand signs near the service island. Alot of stations didn't use these until the gas wars era to show off their lower price. Numbers were usually color coded to the major brands main color. Black is a generic, red could be esso.. texaco... etc., orange... gulf... etc.
If you skim the google images search for old gas stations you can find some pricing towers, etc.
Thank you Paul T! Mystery solved, this is what I was hoping for thanks again.
