I bought this at a thrift store years ago for a few dollars. Everyone that sees it loves it and is convinced that it must be rare. I have looked around on the internet and never seen one like it before. I would love to know the story if any behind this unique pan.

      Erika,

I found 4 of these pans in the back of a restaurant auction house, covered in grease and muck, and knew they were special...waited through 6 hours of auction to pick them up for $50. Professional chef for 15 years and have never used a finer pan. Yours is the FIRST I have seen elsewhere and Ive been looking for a decade. They are carbon steel (black steel, carbone), about 2.5mm thick, with the shaping of a lyonnaise sautuese, a cast handle riveted in 3 places with NO manufacturers label whatsoever...am I right or am I left? Construction rings of old Mauviel but they would always stamp their pans...I am considering approaching a blacksmith here in SF to see if he can make more...better non-stick than teflon, lighter, less brittle and more responsive than cast iron and so robust. lmk if you would ever part with it :) Any markings on yours?
      Cheers
