Secessionist style mahogany pier mirror (circa 1903-07) from an estate in Barcelona, Spain. The pier mirror features a crown with brass inlay set over beveled mirrors above a large arched central mirror, a drop center lower table flanked by lined planters, all rising four brass capped front feet. Dimensions: 92.25” x 39.25” x 16”
This piece and a vitrine in our collection came from the same palacial Barcelona estate and were two of many pieces of furniture of the same style and manufacture. The total suite included a fireplace mantle/surround, pier mirror, display cabinet, settee, two arm chairs, side table, and 6 dining chairs, all in dark island mahogany with geometric gilt-brass inlays.
Tentatively attributed to Thonet Brothers (Vienna, Austria), but this is only a hunch. Any attribution information would be most appreciated.
