I inherited these lamps from my Great Aunt who bought them from her friend, Sybil Merritt. Sybil had been an actress, on contract, for ROK Studios when Howard Hughes ran it and she was one of his "conquests."
These lamps were given to her by Howard Hughes and later she sold them to my Aunt. Apparently, even many years ago they were very expensive.
I do not know anything about these except for what I can see. They are 20 inches tall (base to 2 inches above top of porcelain) and 9 inches at the widest point. The gold paint is textured, you can feel it on the lamp, the bird is abosolutely fantastic. There are some pencil marks on the bottom of one, picture shown, but I cannot make out what it says. Perhaps French?
If anyone can shed any light (sorry about the pun) on these, the information would be appreciated.
