I don't usually go looking for old souvenirs, however, this little wooden letter opener caught my eye. A souvenir of Clayton, Georgia, from what era I do not know, the handle is inlaid with a veneer of all of the different types of wood named on the handle. The back side of the handle is a veneer laid diagonally, made of three or four types of the same woods named on the front. A bit of the finish has worn off, but it's still easy to tell the colors of the various types of wood. I would say it's possible that most or all of those types of wood might be found in the mountains surrounding Clayton--a beautiful area of the northeast Georgia mountains.
