These were found at auction pretty cheap too. They are from T. W. Lane fireman Muster. My wife just fell in love with them and I have to admit they are pretty unique as medals or ribbons go. Celluloid buttons with pictures of fireman I would guess.

Thanks Scott! That's what I'm gathering from the web searches.
Thank you pickrknows!
Thank you Scott and Van! As you look at these you might be interested to know who developed the patent on the compound known as "Celluloid". 2 gentlemen by the names of Whitehead and Hoag first introduced the compound to the world in their prints and pinback buttons back in the 1890s. They were one of the first advertising agencies and had all the large accounts of the day, Boeing, U.S. Government and Worlds Fair are among the hundreds they had. These 2 guys from Newark were groundbreakers!
Sign,
I am very familiar with Whitehead and Hoag-- they certainly were the premier "badge maker" of the late 19th/ early 20th century. As a Civil War collector, most Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) badges that I see bear their name.
However, celluloid pre- dates their company. Whitehead & Hoag were the assignors on numerous patents and processes related to buttons and advertising, but they didn't develop the celluloid patent or compound.
Their use of the product was essential in making "celluloid" known to the masses in the US.
