This is a Grandma Moses, signed and titled in her own handwriting, (Out for the Christmas Tree), plate. It was produced by Atlas China, New York, and the official copyright is Grandma Moses Properties, Inc. It’s a high quality transfer plate of the original landscape painting by Grandma Moses. The poem on the back of the plate, written in her own handwriting, is delightful.
Anna Mary Robertson Moses (1860-1961) was a famous American folk artist. She began painting in her late 70s and painted this landscape in 1946 at the age of 86! Four years later the plate was produced. I’ve seen an online appraisal of this plate for a replacement value of $250.00. Ebay prices are much less, under $50.00. Regardless, it will remain my plate of choice for serving Christmas cookies this year! I’m ashamed to admit that I don’t remember who gave it to me. :( I think it was it was my Aunt Helen but I can’t say for sure.
