So I went out of town about 30 miles today, to a little area called Carter's Creek, near a railroad track. This older lady had this property
that had a bunch of older things from the 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s.
I walked in and couldn't believe what I saw! This sign was in her husband's old barn that they are tearin down shortly. Buried a third of the way under the ground but inside and protected from the sun was this porcelain Lollipop sign. It had been planted there for at least 50 years the woman told me. I was in shock then while tryin to keep my poker face, I said the words, "So what are ya thinkin on this sign?" My hand never stopped holdin on to it! She stood there a minute and said "awwww, you can have it for 65 bucks I guess." I said I would give her $50, she took it! I'm still stunned and shocked that I own it and that I could still find a double sided porcelain sign like this in someone's barn, buried in the dirt!
This makes 2 that I own now but this one will go where my other one stands and my wife says she wants the other one to come upstairs, into the family room. This sign has much better paint on it.
Although the Tenn. Enamel MFG 1939 stamp is not readable.
Great day Pickin!

OK now that is just too many round signs for you LOL That looks GREAT!!!!
Tom, this sign must really like me, that's all I can figure.
I don't understand the odds of it at all! What I didn't figure on was that she had all this stuff in the house that meant something to her but market wise, wasn't gonna bring much. Also I didn't see any computer in the house so certainly not connected like most today are. The reality is,,,,,we all will die, we all won't take any of this with us and the loot just keeps changing hands,,,lol
Great find today !
Great find Signaholic! Nothin' beats a good day pickin'.Love the fact that your wife is OK with it all too, that really helps. Wish I could get her to have a few words with my wife. I look at us as a group of people helping to save this iconic "stuff" for the next generations to enjoy!Keep up the great posts!
Thanks officialfuel, TammyInCarolina and pickrknows! My wife is always with me, we have this kind of competition when it comes to finding stuff. Who can find the best or cheapest deal. She always wins cause I always want the stuff too much and don't have a great poker face,,lol.
She is the Queen of the $5 finds!
I guess the new saying should be "a couple that Picks together, sticks together". Good for you guys! Mine thinks anything old should be thrown out. Hope she keeps me around for a while yet!
LOL! Now that's funny
