My father told me that this is a camp carved pipe with 14 of the battles the soldier was in. It is a handfull. The bowl is 2 1/4" across the top. If I knew I was going to own his pipe collection one day, I would have listened more closely when he talked about them.

Any unit information carved on it or just the battles?
Many of these are post war pieces carved by veterans after the war. What are the 14 battles? I can only see about 8.

Yeah, after the war does make more sense. The battles are: Edwards Ferry, Yorktown, West Point, Fair Oaks, Peach Orchard, Savage's Station, White Oak Swamp, Nelsons farm, Glendale, Malvern hill, Bull Run, Southmountain, Antie Tam, Fredricksburg. No other words.
I'll do some research and see what I can find to ID a unit.
I think the key to an ID is the "Peach Orchard" instead of Gettysburg-- fewer units fought in that area and it will probably yield a few possibles.
Also, based on no later war battles (post JUL 63), it MAY have been wartime carved OR the carver may have been injured or mustered out before the end of the war.
