I have collected these over the years. My favorite is the small oval pin with the female figure. Unfortunately, I put the diamond shaped brooch (with the trees) in the wash (very sad) so the wings have browned. The circular pin with the evergreen I bought in less then perfect condition. Getting these wet always causes damage! They were frequently sold as souvenirs for tourists as in the large oval pin from Rio. Thanks for looking.

And beautiful as they are, they are partly responsible for the extinction or near extinction of several butterflies. Collecting specimens for butterfly collections also helped...
But buying these vintage ones won't make them any deader. It's the new ones we should avoid.
      They are beautiful, wolcott!

Yes Esther, it is sad that the butterflies suffered for these! The fact that they are all vintage makes me feel slightly less guilty. Butterflies are wondrous creatures... Thank you Esther, for your wise words and kind compliment!!

I have bought a pendant and a pair of earrings without knowing it was butterfly wings, I had never heard of it! I was just taken by the colors! Mine are vintage from the 30s and I will enjoy the craftmanship in them but will not by new ones.
