This is double sided, hinged at the upper left with a pin. Can be opened
and has little iron ears look like they may rest on the rim of a pot.
Obviously stamped by a machine. Is it some form of cooking or heating
utensil? Can be used on either side.
Maybe a chestnut roaster?
Good thought! Was found in a box with lots of pots, pans and trivets so guessed it had something to do with cooking. Holes too big to be a corn parcher.
To me it looks like a bed warmer . You put wood coals inside and slip it under the covers in the winter time before going to bed . You do not leave it there long just long enough to warm the blakets and then take it out befor going to bed .
I didn't know bedwarmers came with holes...coal dust must have made a real mess of the sheets!!! o.0
definitely not a bed warmer. Researched chestnut roaster and am pretty sure it is that. Not a fancy English one, but one made by a good old Yankee. Our little museum has lots of homemade utensils, remember, if you can make it you need it, if you can't make it you probably don't need itl. Appreciate the input from all.
