Upon research we found this chair to be a King Louis the XVI and are restoring and refinishing it, any ideas on what you would use for fabric coverings for the back arms and seat. We were thinking a tapestry covering? Whats your idea. And what era and period do you think this chair is from?

If restoring for your personal use, fabric of your choice is most important.
If for other use, like resale, my taste would suggest a silk to suit the elegant lines of the chair. A 3rd suggestion would be use of a bold modern fabric (still in a silk or similar weight) to show contrast between the contemporary fabric design and the lovely lines of the chair. Use your imagination and visualize the finished chair in different types of contemporary settings. Sometimes a visit to a good fabric shop will help stimulate your ideas and, often, a particular fabric just "speaks" to you. Have fun. It is a lovely design. DD@Phila
Personally I like damask designs best for these chairs.

good ideas Thank You so much for looking and sharing. I will be using careful consideration while I browse our Fabric Store.
I will be posting pics when we have completed the project, however, there are 3 pieces to this set, one is the chair you see, then there is a side chair without arms, and an identical Settee. Will keep you all posted :) thanks for your comments and suggestions.
