I love this unique carving, but I don't know a thing about it. I was told that it is made from Ox Bone. It has a marking on the back of it, I believe saying PT 4193. The work that went into this is unbelievable. About what time frame were items like this made. It's such a conversation piece so I want to educate myself on it. Any input is appreciated.

I have a similar one from my paternal grandmother that has a working water wheel. I don't have any information other than I used to love to play with it when I was a kid. I'll have to post pictures of it when it's unpacked.

What I know today is that these were made for export in Japan, early to mid 20th century with celluloid material, there were many small novelties of this kind which are highly collectable. Some open clams, some rickshaws with geishas sitting in them etc.
Can't say if this is ox bone or not, but I doubt it would have a Patent number P.T. 4193 if it was carved bone. ;-)
