Badges are another collectible in search of a catagory here. Besides law enforcement, badges have been issued for just about every kind of job title one can imagine. Here for example is a badge for an alderman from Baraboo Wisconsin. Most badge collectors collect law badges or fire badges based on location. Others collect all types of badges from a region. For example I collect all badges from Milwaukee city and county which includes the over 100 different job titles on badges that I have collected so far. One of the most interesting sub-catagories are the retirement and long service badges and they can also be the most expensive since many are made of silver and gold. For those on a lower budget private company guards and rent-a-cop badges can be very interesting and historically significant. Yes, badge collecting is also legal in most instances. Exceptions would be currently in use badge types depending on the local agency that issed them and many Federal badges. Of course it is also illegal to wear or carry any badge that you are not entitled to. Pretend cops will end up in a real jail eventually.
