As you can see many of these manikins were put with pattern names . This is the Butterick Mannequin in box. Circa 1940's . I have shown a few of her patterns also . She is about 13" tall . She had more patterns but I will post them later not in PC at moment. She dates from 1940 and they were used to teach young girls to sew .

xxma I have had well over 100 -150 of these minature mannequin and have had to restore many . They are most sensitive to climate and water or dampness . They are so often found cracked and paint flaking off . Yours could be fixed to look very nice . They are an important part of history as they needed girls to sew during war and there was not much material so these little ones were perfect to sew with scraps of material . I also collect a bit larger ones that were used on store counters to display a womans dress in a minature size . Butterick, Simplicity patterns and McCall came with this small ones and can be found on ebay . Your mannequin like this has other patterns that went with her also . I did not show them all including a military set of clothes , nurses outfit ect . You got a nice buy for what you pd :-)

    Hi Manikin,
I just purchased a latexture mannequin from E-bay that has cracks and flaking paint and I was wondering if you could give me some tips on restoreing it. I saw some of the ones you posted and you do a beautiful job at restoring. Do you use wood putty or spackel to repair the cracks and crazing? I'm really not sure and what type of paint is used? Is there a book I might get to help? Any information you could give would be helpful, you seem to be an expert in this field. Thanks!

Hello IMADOLL . No I don't use spackle . First off is whole doll in trouble or just one area . On these Buttericks they tend to flack more than other . They are either in near perfect conditon or a mess. Dampness is their enemy . Is face involved ?
It depends on how deep the the crazing . Generally if just crazed in one spot , sand lightly and repaint matching old paint and cover with a sealer . What I use for large breaks only example leg broke in half and it needs to be secured again then I use something Like a epoxy putty . I would write more but why don't you email the photo of the doll if I see her maybe can help . Many times crazing is there to stay unless you sand down whole doll all her paint off and then she is never the same :-( Email addy manikin1234@aol.com . CW may not want me to give repair tips it might be a new rule .
