This 7" X 5" image has been mounted on large cardboard backing. It depicts the town of Sitka, Alaska and dates from about 1895- 1910.

Sitka was the first territorial capital of Alaska and was also the site of the lowering of the Russian Flag and raising of the American Flag after the Alaska purchase in 1867.

In the left center of the image is Saint Michael's Russian Orthodox Cathedral.

Along the street are several shops and people. Two visible signs are "Sitka Trading Co" and "Josie and Arthur, Restaurant and Bakery, Meals on Short Order".

I really like early street view scenes.

Rproduction of this image in any form is not authorized.
