I picked up this 3 piece butter dish (at least it was sold as a 3 piece butter dish) for $4 at an auction. I loved the colour and figured it was inexpensive depression glass and planned to use it daily. After some internet searching, I understand that some of this glass is worth substantially more than I expected and I'm not so sure I want to use it anymore ;). Baccarat depose is imprinted within the glass (hopefully you can see it on the picture) which is different from what I saw on other on-line pieces. I would appreciate anything anyone can tell me about this piece (ie: is it a butter dish, is the pattern "swirl", how old it might be and if it should go on display in my curio cabinet rather than on my table). Many thanks in advance!

Definitely Baccarat Swirl pattern in dkr blue. They made a very pale blue too. They made the swirl in many colors. Rose Tiente being the most famous color. What a bargain...Worth approx 150 dollars to 300 dollars. They primarily made the blue after WWI and before WWII. However they made that color earlier than WWI too and after WWII also. The depose marks most always were used in twenties through the early 50's but the blue was most popular mid to late twenties. Hard and fast rules rarely apply to Baccarat because of the multiple variations and length of time the factory has operated. Marvelous blue color. And it does appear to be a soft butter dish but they made so many items in the swirl pattern from toothpick holders to chandeliers to yes toothbrush holders and perfume bottles that without the original catalogue it is hard to know for sure. Your piece is fairly uncommon color and shape so enjoy. I love Baccarat Swirl colored production pieces so clean and sparkly. Yes, curio worthy...lol. I have never subjected my old Baccarat to actual use...
Thanks so much for the information you've provided, I really appreciate it. The pieces are already in the curio cabinet and I feel very lucky to have them!
