This is a Hot Chocolate Pot Set that my mom inherited from my Great Aunt. We found it in a box as my mom is cleaning out the house to move to a condo. It comes with 6 cups and saucers, a plate and a double dish that is joined. Can anyone tell me what this dish is for? They are all marked RS Tillowitz in green on the back with the green star at the top & the wreath logo. Can anyone tell me what decade it is from - 1930's? Through a lot of research over the past year, I finally found out it is called Parrots on a branch. Of course, I have fallen in love with this set & want to ask my mom for it for Christmas. I am just worried that it is rare b/c I haven't seen anything like it in my research. Can anyone tell me it's value b/c I would like to know if I am getting it as a gift or buying it from her? Also, are there other pieces to this set like a biscuit jar. Since one way or another I am getting this, would you use it for special occasions or just display it? Lastly, is it authentic? Thanks to anyone that can help me, I really appreciate it.

      Check out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reinhold_Schlegelmilch.

So it is probably pre 1945.

Thank you very much. I checked http://www.reprussia.net as has been recommended on other posts, which is where I am getting the 1930's from. I am wondering is anyone can confirm this.

Hi. Your set is probably from the 1920s. It was produced by the Reinhold Schlegelmilch in his second factory in Tillowitz, now Tulowice, Poland. http://www.rsprussia.com and http://www.rsprussia.net are probably the best sources for history and examples. The smaller dish were for 'tid-bits'. It's hard to value at the moment, as I think a lot of RS Prussia and related items are selling on the low side, due to the economy. I think that at a publicized RSP auction (e.g., Woodys or Wrodas), the set might sell for $400 - $500 or more. Nice set, and you don't see a full set of parrot decor items.

Thank you so much amarcus. I have checked out both sites. I think that means I will be buying it from her - dang. I was having a hard time dating it. The pictures don't do it justice b/c the yellow really pops. Would it fall under Art Deco or Art Nouveau? I am so glad that I found you guys. This is so great to share. I just love them & can't wait until they are in my condo!

Wellheeled, the shape and design is in the art deco style - streamlined, without detailed molded borders, and the color is more typical of the 1920s. I would use this for display, rather than for serving. Many RS Prussia collectors like the parrot decor and it's very collectible. Enjoy.

amarcus - Thank you again. I called my mom & told her that I was going to buy it from her & she said, "why would you want that?" I laughed & told her how much I loved it. So I guess, I am now an RS Prussia collector! I will use it for display on your recommendation. This may sound funny, but it makes me happy to look at b/c the colour is like bright sunshine.

There are only 5 cups & saucers. It appears that I can't count!

GREAT set-- the parrots are very desirable.

      Thanks for sharing.
