All I know is that it reminds me of all those spider and bee and dragonfly pins that came out. Remember seeing a girl get on the bus with a big collection on her coat once and I used to have about 8 or 10 of them except that they were all painted.
Apparently they were big in the early 60's, late 50's. This one you have is a keeper !
Teresa, here is the "general" rule according to Bille Hougart's "The Little Book of Mexican Silver Trade and Hallmarks," 2001:
"Dating: While dating Mexican silver is problematic, a few general guidelines are useful. The eagle stamp was introduced in the late 1940's (probably by @1948) and had been discontinued by about 1980. The replacement system using letters and numbers was in place by 1980. Thus:
1900-1948 . . No eagle mark
1848-1980 . . Usually an eagle mark
1980-Pres . . Letter/Number system" [for example, TC-35]
The lack of an eagle mark (1900-1948) was usually due to lack of surface area and it was attached by wire to the piece before sale and usually removed after. That wouldn't be the case with your piece.
It's a great piece and the size makes it that much better.
